Turkish soldiers reportedly injured in explosion in Kurdish-majority province
Several Turkish troops were injured in an explosion in Turkey's Kurdish-majority province of Hakkari on Monday, according to a report by Mezopotamya News Agency (MA).
The incident occured as a convoy carrying soldiers from the district of Semdinli to Derecik was passing near a municipal waste landfill in the mountainous Gomane region where a Turkish military base is located.
Citing local sources MA said that soldiers fired rounds randomly for minutes after the explosion.
Ambulances were dispatched for the injured soldiers who were carried to Semdinli Public Hospital for treatment.
Intense military movement was observed in the region following the incident.
While the number of injured soldiers remains unknown, the incident has not yet been confirmed by other sources.
The region is one of the hot spots of armed conflict between Turkish forces and Kurdish fighters affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) since early 1980s.
